Don’t underestimate the power of storytelling—especially when it comes wrapped in Hollywood magic. Take Jurassic Park, for example. When Steven Spielberg unleashed those roaring dinosaurs in 1993, he didn’t just make movie history—he gave the American economy a serious boost.

In just one month, the film pulled in over US$200 million domestically. And it didn’t stop there. Globally, Jurassic Park stampeded past expectations, raking in US$621 million in profits. But the real beast? The ripple effect. Theme parks sprung up. Merchandise flew off shelves. And the franchise became a billion-dollar ecosystem of its own. It's all from a story.

When we talk about the most loyal fandoms on Earth, Potterheads easily top the list. Let’s be honest—those of us in our 30s (yes, guilty!) still carry a deep love for the world J.K. Rowling created. It all started with the books, of course, but the magic only grew stronger with the film series that dominated the box offices and captured hearts worldwide. Even now, I find myself pressing play on a familiar favorite—The Prisoner of Azkaban, always. There's just something about it: the mood, the mystery, the magic.

Even Miriam Margolyes, the actress behind the beloved Professor Sprout, expressed concern about the adult obsession, telling ABC News Australia, "It's time to forget about it and go on to other things."

But... is it? As a Millennial who grew up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione, I’d argue the opposite. Revisiting Hogwarts feels more like therapy than denial. It’s a place where nature thrives, adventures await, and you’re never too ordinary to be extraordinary. It was every child’s dream—and for many of us, it still is. And maybe, that’s okay.

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience

One ordinary day, this Millennial spotted something extraordinary: an ad for Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience—right here in Melbourne! Without a second thought, I hit book now. Because how could I resist? So in late May 2024, just as the first whispers of winter danced through the air, I found myself wandering the misty woods of Mount Martha, Victoria (well, actually it's one-hour drive from Melbourne)—only this time, it wasn’t just a forest. It was Hogwarts’ backyard.

Magical creatures from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films emerged from the shadows—brought to life with glowing lights, immersive sounds, and just the right amount of mystery. The path was fully interactive, letting you cast spells like a true Hogwarts student. Wand in hand, I lit up enchanted spots, whispered incantations, and watched the magic respond. And yes—the moment of pure joy—Buckbeak, Hagrid’s majestic hippogriff, bowed to me.

But wait—the adventure doesn’t end there. The Forbidden Forest is full of surprises. You can come face-to-knee with Grawp, Hagrid’s towering half-brother, who’s surprisingly friendly for a giant. And don’t miss the chance to snap a photo with the infamous flying Weasley's Car "Ford Anglia"—the one that went rogue after crash-landing in the forest. It’s nostalgic.

And when the chill starts to creep in? Head straight to Hogsmeade for a warm-up break. Their House Hot Chocolate is an absolute must-try—rich, creamy, and served in a cup repping your favorite Hogwarts house. Gryffindor courage? Ravenclaw wisdom? Hufflepuff kindness? Slytherin ambition? Take your pick and sip it like a true witch or wizard. And of course, no magical journey is complete without a glass of frothy Butterbeer and a few light snacks to keep your wand hand steady.

And of course, what’s a magical experience without a little something to take home? The final stop—like every great theme park journey—is merch heaven. At Ollivander’s Wand Shop, you can browse through shelves lined with iconic souvenirs: character wands, cozy Hogwarts house jumpers, enamel badges, and more. Whether you’re drawn to the dark magic of Voldemort, the bravery of Harry, or just want to wave around a Death Eater wand (no judgment!), there’s a keepsake for every kind of witch and wizard.

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience has already enchanted fans across the globe—Singapore, the US, the UK, France, and right here in Melbourne. But the good news for Aussie Potterheads: the magic continues! In 2025, the experience is heading to Brisbane! Starting on 20 June, the forests of Mount Cotton will be transformed into a glowing, interactive wonderland straight out of the Wizarding World.

Tickets go on sale this April—so keep your eyes on the Floo Network (or just, you know, the internet), and don’t miss your chance to step into the magic. Oh—and if you want a sneak peek before stepping into the magic yourself, check out their Instagram. From behind-the-scenes clips to fan-shared reels, the feed is pure wizarding eye candy.

Not Just Entertainment for Children

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience isn’t just for kids—it’s for everyone who’s ever dreamed of receiving a Hogwarts letter. In fact, you’ll find just as many adults wandering the magical trails, reliving their childhoods, and proudly wearing their house robes. And yes, full-on Hogwarts cosplay is highly encouraged—no matter your age or allegiance. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin—the Forbidden Forest welcomes all.

For me, the experience stirred up a beautiful wave of nostalgia, taking me back to one of my most memorable adventures: walking through Diagon Alley and standing in awe before Hogwarts Castle at Universal Studios Japan’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This felt like the perfect sequel to that memory—only this time, surrounded by real trees, fresh air, and twinkling lights.

And here’s the cherry on top: by purchasing a ticket, you're not just entering a magical world—you’re helping protect this one. The event supports a tree-planting initiative through One Tree Planted, and to date, over 69,000 trees have been donated. So go ahead—live your wizarding dream!
